1. Overview

ByteEngine is an individual freelance developer, not a studio, agency, or company. Every payment made through this website is for my personal time and skilled effort on a specific, individually agreed project — not for a mass-produced or off-the-shelf product. Because of that, refunds are the exception rather than the norm, and are considered on a case-by-case basis, entirely at my discretion, as described below.

2. Payments are for time and effort, not a guaranteed outcome

When you pay for a project, milestone, or deposit, you are paying for my time, attention, and skilled work being committed to your project — including time spent discussing requirements, planning, and building — not for a specific guaranteed result, and not on a "satisfaction guaranteed" or trial basis. Once work has begun, that time and effort has genuinely been spent and cannot be undone, regardless of the outcome.

3. Before work begins

If you cancel before any work has started on your project, a partial refund may be considered at my discretion, minus any time already spent on communication, planning, scoping, or preparation related to your project up to that point. This is not guaranteed and depends on the circumstances of the specific project.

4. Once work has begun

Once work has started on a project or milestone, payments made for that project or milestone are treated as non-refundable, reflecting the time and effort already committed. This applies even if a project is later cancelled, paused, or the client changes their mind, decides not to proceed, or becomes unresponsive. Partial completion of a milestone does not create an entitlement to a partial refund of that milestone.

5. Change of mind, scope changes, or unmet expectations

Refunds are not provided simply because a client changes their mind, no longer needs the work, or had expectations that were not clearly agreed in writing beforehand. Where a client feels delivered work does not match what was agreed, the first step is always to raise it directly so it can be reviewed and, where reasonable and within the original agreed scope, revised — rather than assuming a refund is the default remedy. Requests that go beyond the originally agreed scope are not grounds for a refund and may instead require a separate agreement, as covered in the Terms & Conditions.

6. Circumstances where a refund may be considered

A refund, in whole or in part, may be considered at my sole discretion in limited circumstances, such as:

Even in these situations, whether a refund is issued, and how much, remains at my discretion and is assessed individually — this list is illustrative, not a guarantee that any of these situations will result in a refund.

7. Cancellations initiated by me

I also reserve the right to cancel or decline to continue a project at my discretion — for example, due to non-payment, abusive conduct, a client failing to provide necessary information over an extended period, or a project turning out to fall outside what I'm able to deliver. In such cases, any amount owed for work already completed remains payable, and any refund of amounts not yet worked is handled at my discretion in line with this policy.

8. How to request a refund or cancellation

Requests should be sent to byteengine.work@gmail.com or via the contact page, with your project or invoice reference and a description of the situation. I will review the request personally and respond with a decision. There is no automated or guaranteed refund process on this website — every request is reviewed individually.

9. Final decision

Because each project is different, all refund and cancellation decisions are made individually by me, and my decision on any specific request is final. Nothing on this page should be read as a promise or guarantee of a refund in any particular situation.

10. Payment provider policies

Payments on this website are processed through Razorpay. Where a payment has been processed through Razorpay, its own refund and chargeback handling processes may also apply independently of this policy. Initiating a chargeback or dispute directly with Razorpay or your bank, instead of contacting me first, may affect future willingness to take on work for that client.

11. Relationship to other policies

This page should be read together with the Terms & Conditions, which govern the overall freelance engagement, and the Privacy Policy, which covers how information related to payments is handled.

12. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time at my discretion. Significant changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.

13. Contact

Questions about this policy can be sent to byteengine.work@gmail.com or via the contact page.
